The Apple IIGS was introduced in September 1986 at an initial price of $999 with 1 MB of memory. It was discontinued in December 1992. It used a Western Design Center 65C816 processor running at 2.8 MHz and used either Apple ProDos or Apple GS/OS as its operating system. It had one internal open slot for a memory expansion card, and 7 50-pin Apple II peripheral slots. It had two video outputs: a RGB composite video out and a DB-15 video out. It also had 1 ADB port, 2 mini DIN-8 serial ports, a DB-19 floppy port, 1 internal 16-pin GAME I/) and 1 external DE-9 gaming ports plus a 3.5 mm. audio out.
The Apple IIGS was our first computer. It was purchased in 1987 from Complete Computer Center in Ann Arbor, MI. We purchased a complete system: Apple IIGS, AppleColor RGB Monitor, 3.5” and 5.25” floppy drives, and an ImageWriter II printer for $2850. Thank goodness prices have come down!
Sadly, we no longer own this computer. It was replaced by our first Macintosh computer. The photos of hardware are not mine; however the photos of the IIGS brochure were taken by me of our original brochure.
Most of the photos of the actual hardware are from mirrors.apple2.org.za.
