Macintosh Performa 6205CD (M3046)

This is the first Macintosh we owned. Although this is a photo of a Performa 6200CD, they were essentially identical. It was sold as a system which included the AppleDesign Keyboard, Apple Desktop Bus II Mouse, Apple Multiple Scan 15” display and a Global Village Teleport 28.8 modem. We also purchased a HP Deskjet printer at the same time, but I’m no longer sure which model. The entire setup was purchased at CompUSA for roughly $2600, including tax.

The Performa 6200 was introduced on August 28, 1995. Ours used a 75 MHz PowerPC 603 processor, had a 1 GB hard drive and shipped with 8 MB of memory, which I’m sure I upgraded. Ports were: 1 ADB, 2 serial (modem, printer), 1 DB-25 SCSI, 1 DB-15 display, audio in and 2 audio outs, plus an internal speaker. It had four expansion slot: LC PDS, Comm, TV and Video I/O.

This computer earned the distinction of "Road Apple" from LowEndMac.com, i.e. one of the worst Macs ever made. In fact, it, along with all of the 5200 and 6200 variants, were listed as the worst Macs ever sold.

When we got our first Power Macintosh G3, this became the kids’ computer. It was subsequently replaced with a used B&W G3 for our son, and a Power Macintosh 5400 for our daughter.

We no longer own this, and unfortunately never photographed it.
