Obituary, Washington Observer-Reporter:
“Velma Chess Headley, 92, of Washington RD 8, died at 12:45 a.m. Sunday, October 25, 1987, in the Kade Nursing Home in Washington following a long illness.
She was born Septemeber 30, 1895, in Richhill Township, a daughter of Jonas V. and Ada Phillips Chess.
She was a graduate of Richhill Township High School and Waynesburg College, Class of 1916.
She was a homemaker and also taught school for several years. She was a member of the Wind Ridge Christian Church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years.
On December 30, 1918, she married Grover C. (Cleve) Headley, who died May 31, 1978. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Kennedy (Lucille) Jenkins of Washington RD 8; and two granddaughters, Mrs. Joseph (Martha) Gorecki of Kadena Air Force Base, Okinawa, and Mrs. John (Joyce) Makel Jr. of Washington RD 8.
She was the last of her immediate family.”
