Benjamin L. Locke, 70, passed away at the home of a son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Neal L. Locke, Sr., of Fairmont on Sunday, November 22. He was a resident of Marion County for forty years, working in the coal mines, at Jamison No. 9.
Mr. Locke had been ill for the past two years and was bedfast for the past three months.
He was born Aug. 1, 1883 at Maxwell, Pleasants County, the son of the late William and Rebecca (Jones) Locke. Mrs. Amy B. Wiley Locke preceded him in death.
Surviving are four sons, and one daughter. Alvin, of Aberdeen, Md., Neal, Charles, William, and Mrs. Artola Dowdy all of Rt. 2, Fairmont. There are 14 grandchildren, two brothers, Daniel J. Locke of Charleston, and Namon S. Locke of Medina, Oh. And one sister, Miss Savina Locke of Ben’s Run.
Two brothers and two sisters are deceased; Robert L. Locke, Stockport, Oh., Mrs. Ben Brammer, Mrs. Elmira Wiley, and Coleman W. Locke all of St. Marys.
Benjamin L. Locke, better known in Pleasants County as Ben Locke, taught school for several years.
Those attending the funeral from a distance were Perry and Arza Wiley of Belpre, Oh. Mrs. Robert L. Locke of Marietta, Oh., and Mrs. Tom Elder of St. Marys.”
