“The Hamilton family came to Tyler County by way of Monongalia County (WV).. In 1801, Benjamin Hamilton, born between 1776-1780, and wife Phebe were living on a tract of land known as ‘Golden Survey’ located on Meadow Run (now Dent Run), which flows into the Mononghela river south of Scott Run, where John Hamilton settled in 1773. Phebe, born in 1781, was the daughter of Jacob Scott, Indian scout and Revolutionary War soldier, and a granddaughter of Zackquill Morgan, founder of Morgantown. Benjamin died in 1833 leaving his widow and seven children: Jacob, 1802; William; Ann Tansey, 1806; Susanna Thomas, 1806; Benjamin, 1817; Aron, 1819, and Robert.”585
