Obituary, Wetzel Republican (New Martinsville, WV), June 3, 1932:

Alice Riggs

The unexpected death of Alice Riggs, of Alma and Pennsboro, was a shock to all Tyler, as no one knew that she was ill. She was operated on for gall stones at St. Joseph hospital in Parkersburg on Thursday morning and was apparently doing well until about midnight Friday, when she suffered a heart attack and passed away about 2 a. m., May 21, 1932, aged 49 years.

She was born near Bearsville, this county, on April 30, 1883, a daughater of the late Wilson and Margaret Lough Riggs. She grew to womanhood in that place, and when young united with the M. P. church at Pleasant Valley. She began teaching in the rural schools, and when Tyler county high school was organized she entered on a four-year course, graduating in 1912. Later she completed the standard normal at West Liberty. For the past ten years or more she has been teaching in the Pennsboro graded school. She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Ida Riggs Fordyce, of Fairmont, and one brother, Perry Riggs, of Bearsville, and by many relatives.

The remains were brought to the home of Mrs. Fordyce Saturday. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Spring Hill church, and interment was in the RIggs lot nearby.—Tyler Journal
