From Nelson’s Biographical __________ of Fayette County, PA:
John Acklin was born in Washington county, and his wife was born in Fayette county. John Acklin was one of the noted teamsters who drove on the National Road for a number of years. He was a cooper by trade and was counted one of the most skillful veterinarians of his day, whos services were in demand far and near. After leaving the “Old Pike” he settled on a farm, which he purchased near Hopewell church, and where he remained up to his death, which occurred August 21, 1882. His wife preceded him to the tomb by fourty years. They removed to Luzerne township in 1830, and their family consisted of six children, two of whom are living, Robert and Thomas.

John Acklin’s will is in Will Book 5, p. 394. It was dated Nov. 18, 1870, and proved Sept. 12, 1882. In it he names sons Joseph, Thomas, William, and Robert, daughter Nancy Baird, and grandsons John Acklin (son of Joseph) and Joseph Acklin (son of Robert).
