Maxine H. Burt, 93, of Houston, died Wednesday, November 2, 2016, in Washington Hospital.
She was born October 10, 1923, a daughter of the late John E. and Goldie Grimm Hart.
Mrs. Burt was a 1941 graduate of Canonsburg High School. She served on the Reunion Committee every five years through their 50th class reunion.
She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church, Houston.
With her husband, Mrs. Burt owned and operated Burt's Bakery in Washington. She worked for 12 years at the former RCA in Meadow Lands and for 35 years as secretary and treasurer for the Borough of Houston, retiring in 2013 for health reasons. After her retirement, Houston Borough Council dedicated the pavilion in Houston Borough Park as the Maxine Hart Burt Pavilion.
On May 5, 1942, she married Weir W. Burt while he was stationed in Ft. Riley, Kan. He passed away December 1, 1993.
Surviving are a son, William B. Burt (Genie) of Washington; three grandchildren, Eric Burt (Carla) of Washington, Brian Burt of Santa Clarita, Calif., and Allison J. Rider (Daniel) of Aurora, Ill.; four great-grandchildren, Brandon, Malia and Weston Burt and Garrett Rider; a daughter-in-law, Janet Burt of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, David W. Burt; four brothers, George, Loyal, David and William Hart; and two sisters, Gail Malugen and Meldron Hart, who died in infancy.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in McIlvaine-Speakman Funeral Home Ltd., Robert K. McIlvaine, owner/supervisor, 27 Cherry Avenue, Houston, PA 15342, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, November 8. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
