“George Edison Kerr
WWII vet formerly of Greene County
George Edison Kerr, 79, of Washington, formerly of Greene County, died unexpectedly at 10:40 a.m. Tuesday, February 27, 2007, in his home.
He was born February 25, 1928, in Jackson Township, Delphine, Greene County, a son of Phillip Rex and Brooksie Moniger Kerr.
He resided in Greene County in his early years, prior to moving to Washington County in 1991.
Mr. Kerr had formerly attended Bethany United Methodist Church.
He was a veteran of World War II, where he served with the U.S. Army as a private first class in Germany with Troop C 13 Constabulary Squad, receiving the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal. He was a former member of American Legion Post 330 and Eagles Club, both of Waynesburg.
Mr. Kerr formerly was employed in the gas and oil fields of Western Pennsylvania with McClure & Sons and in West Virginia with Yost Brothers and Chisler Drilling of Daybrook, W.Va. He also was employed during the road construction project of Interstates 79 and 70 by Mashuda Construction and Chapman Corp. He was last employed by Ohio Valley Excavating and Baden Oil and Gas Co. of Baden, prior to retirement due to ill health.
He enjoyed hunting as long as his health permitted.
Surviving are two sons, Johnny Bill Kerr of Waynesburg and Charles Robert Kerr of Morgantown, W.Va.; two daughters, Pamela Faye, wife of James Engle of Washington and Patricia Diane, wife of Kenneth Headlee of Waynesburg; eight grandchildren, Heidi Whipkey, Jennifer Williams, Jeffrey, Joseph, and Jayme Engle and Jonathon, Travis and Ariel Kerr; seven great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Jo Kerr of Brave; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Samuel Rex Kerr; four brothers, Samuel R., Kenneth R., Eli F. and Ramond M. Kerr; and seven sisters, Annabelle Weaver, Irma Strope, Betty Jean King, Ethel Marlene Phillips, Maude Elizabeth Weaver, Margaret R. Bateson and Edna Faye Nelson.
Friends will be received from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 2, with Pastor Gary Gibson officiating. Interment will follow in Centennial Cemetery, Aleppo Township. Graveside military rites will be accorded by American Legion Post 330, Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 4793 and Disabled American Veterans Post 123, all of Waynesburg.
