James was single in the 1870 Census of Jackson Twp., living with the Melvin Hull family, along with his sister Sarah. He was living (also with his sister) with William and Charlotte Morris of Jackson Twp. in the 1880 census.
257 He was also listed in the 1900 Census of Richhill Twp.
170James and Annabelle were first cousins.
James was called “Reddy Jim” because of the color of his hair.
Obituary:
“James H. Staggers, 78, died at 9:15 o’clock tonight (October 5, 1941), in his home in Franklin Township, after an illness of eight months, due to a stroke.
Mr. Staggers, a son of James and Elizabeth Rush Staggers, was born February 28, 1863, in Jackson township, and spent the greater part of his life in that township, near Bristoria.
His wife was Mrs. Annabelle Staggers, now deceased.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Beatrice S. Whiting, of Philadelphia, and a grandson, Stanton Wolfe.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 o’clock in the Ralph Scott Funeral Home, Rogersville, in charge of the Rev. A. M. Riggs. Friends will be received at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Staggers Cemetery, in Jackson Township.”
