Obituary:
“Charles Elmer Chapman
Chaarles E. Chapman, son fo the late John Mr. and Martha Scaggs Chapman, was born August 25, 1897 in Wayne County, Missouri and departed this life August 21, 1961, at Univesity Hospital, Columbia, age 63 years, 11 months and 27 days, following an illness of several months.
He was united n marriage to Mahala A. Burch May 22, 1918. To this union five children were born, who, with the wife survive: Clyde V., Colorado Springs, Colo.; Hilda (Mrs. George) Gerlach, Kenniwick, Washington; Kenneth D., U.S. Air Force, San Antonio, Texas; Betty Lou and Charles E. Jr., Farmingnton. Also surviving are fifteen grandchildlren; five brothers and three sisters, Ed of Flat River; Oscar and Otto of Farmington; Louis of Arcadia star Routhe; Nells (?) of Thornton, Colo.; Mrs. Mary Wilkerson; Mildred (Mrs. A. A.) Reed, Farmington and Lola (Mrs. W. A.) _______(illegible), Denver, Colo.; nephews, nieces and a host of friends.
The deceased lived in St. ouis for a number of years, but retured to this vicinity, where he and Mrs. Chapman operated DX and Blue Diamond Cafes.
He united with the second Baptist church, Farminton and was active in many phases of the church work as long as health permitted.
Funeral services will be held at Miller’s Funeral Chapel, Thursday at 2:00 p.m. conducted by Rev. ________(illegible); Interment will be in the Doe Run cemetery.”
