Obituary:
“Harold E. Poland, Sr., 71 of 2141 The Circle, Washington, PA, died at 12:28 pm Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1984 in his home following a long illness.
Born January 13, 1913, in West Alexander, he was the son of William Herbert and Loucretia Anderson Poland.
Mr. Poland was employed by Drakenfield Co. as a watchman and warehouseman until his retirement in 1978. He was a member of the Friendship Community Church. Mr. Poland was a U. S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was past commander of VFW Post No. 8319 of Log Pile No. 175 of Washington, 50 & 8 Voiture No. 676 of Washington County, BPOE Lodge no. 776 of Washington. FOE lodge no. 106 of Washington, Lomm Lodge No. 22 of Washington, Meadow Lands Sportsmen Club, and Disabled American Veterans, Washington, Chapter No. 125, and the Veterans of the Battlel of the Bulge of World War II.
On August 18, 1931, he married Lavina M. Cole, who survives.
Also surviving are a son Harold E. (Junior) Poland Jr. of Long Pile; three daughters, Dorothy Whiteman of Washington, Mrs. Robert (Margaret) Randolph of Log Pile and Mrs. Donald (Connie) Kler of Lawrence Harbor, NJ; a brother, Wilbert L. Poland of Washington; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son and a daughter, both who died in infancy; two brothers, Henry and Herbert; and three sisters, Shirley Moninger, Mary Lou Vester and Ilene M. Jackson.

Poland: friends of Harold E. Poland Sr. of 2141 The Circle, Washington, who died Wednesday, Feb. 8, 1984, will be received from 7 to 9 pm. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm Friday in the Hummell and Barnhill Funeral Home Inc., 585 Fayette Street,Washington, where services will be held at 1 pm Saturday Feb. 11, with the Rev. Floyd C. Marasco, pastor of the Friendship Community Church, officiating. Burial in Washington Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Friendship Community Church.”1681
