Ralph E. Grimm, 79, of Williamsville, N.Y., formerly of Oil City and Warren, died Saturday at his residence. Born May 3, 1907, in New Lyme, Ohio, he was a son of the late Joshua M. and Clara Susan Ullom Grimm.
He was graduated from Allegheny College, Meadville, in 1931, then accepted a position with the United Natural Gas Co. in Oil City, an association that would become a 41-year career with National Fuel companies. For 19 years, he worked for the Iroquois Gas Corp., at Buffalo, NY, as superintendent of distribution, general superintendent, and vice president. He left Iroquois to become president of the Pennsylvania Gas Company at Warren where he served as president and as a director of National Fuel until his retirement in 1972.
On Feb. 2, 1935, he married the former Laura Mae Walter at Grace United Methodist Church in Oil City. She died in June this year.
He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Oil City, Buffalo, Williamsville, and Warren. He was president of the Williamsville Methodist Home for Children (Gateway) and the Chief Cornplanter Council (Warren), Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the Warren Kiwanis Club, the Warren Housing Authority, and the chambers of commerce in Buffalo, Niagara Falls, and Dunkirk.
He is survived by a brother, Glenn Grimm of Canyon County, CA; a son, George W. Grimm of Houston, TX; a daughter, Susan Penkacik of Tonawanda, NY; two nieces and a nephew; four grandchildren, Margo Grimm of Christchurch, New Zealand, Bradley Grimm of Tucson, AZ, and Jeff Penkacik and Amy Laura Penkacik, both of Tonawanda, NY. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a sister, Eliza Dryer Runyan, and two nephews.
Services will be at the Morrison Funeral Home, Oil City with Rev. Jack Spencer, pastor of the Lakewood United Methodist Church at Erie, officiating. Entombment will follow in the Grove Hill Cemetery, Oil City.
