Emma Jane never married, and lived with her sister, Ida Mae, in Lenox, Iowa. The family story is that she did have a suitor, but felt she couldn’t leave her parents at the time as her father was not well.

She loved her garden and took care of the outside of the home and Aunt Ida did the inside jobs, plus the cooking. They were very differnt in appearance and Aunt Emma was of smaller stature, and smalle boned, rather dar complexion, while Aunt Ida was a tall and big boned woman and fair xomplexion. Aunt Ida had beautiful white hair which she always kept covered wit a net kind of affair, which was such a shame.1537
