Obituary from Draucker Funeral Home:
“Delbert Grim, age 90, longtime Ogallala resident, died Thursday, February 5, 2009, in the Perkins County Hospital in Grant.
Del was born September 12, 1918 in Doniphan, NE., the son of Oliver and Inez Richardson Grim. He received his early education in Ansley, NE. After graduating from Ansley High School in 1936 Del was employed at O.J. Grim and Son Fuel Co.
On May 4, 1938 Del was united in marriage to Margery Watts at Grand Island, NE. The couple resided in Ansley where he was employed with his father in the oil business. The couple also lived in Lincoln and Grand Island before moving to Ogallala in 1989. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary last May.
On July 26, 1944 Del entered the Army and was discharged on Nov. 30, 1945, with the rank of Staff Sargent. Later on he was employed by Pacific Gunsight Company, Hornady Bullet Co., and Winchester Firearms Co. in the sales department. He retired in 1984.
Mr. Grim was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Ogallala Masonic Lodge #159, being the oldest sustaining member. He was Past Master of the Ansley Masonic Lodge, was holder of the Jordan Medal, and a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #153 of Ansley.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He excelled in trapshooting and won the Grand American Handicap Trapshoot in Vandalia, Ohio in 1966. Del was a huge promoter and coach of the Ogallala High School trap team until his eyesight failed. He especially enjoyed being out-of-doors at Lake McConaughy and being with friends and family.
Preceding him in death were his parents, stepmother Marie Grim, son-in-law Rod Samp, and great-grandson Matt Juengel.
Survivors include his wife Margery Grim of Ogallala; and two daughters: Barbara and husband LeRoy Juengel of Lincoln and Sharon Samp of Brule; Four grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great- grandson.
Visitation will be Friday, February 6, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Draucker Funeral Home.
Funeral Service will be Saturday, February 7, at 10:30 a.m. in the First United Methodist Church with Rev. James Miller officiating. Masonic rites performed by the Ogallala Masonic Lodge #159 AF & AM.
Interment in the Ogallala Cemetery with military honors by the Keith County Honor Guard. A memorial has been established to the First United Methodist Church.
