Jennings Eddy Jr., 85, went peacefully to his eternal home with his Lord and Savior.

Surviving is his wife, Helen Roberta Eddy, who was by his side for 66 years.

Jennings was born on Nov. 28, 1927 at Clarksburg, W.Va. Jennings Eddy was the son of William Jennings and Mabel Ellen Eddy of St. Marys, W.Va.

In addition to his wife, Jennings is survived by three children, Barbara Ellen (Eric) Miles from Sandyville, James Clinton (Cheryl) Eddy from Greer, S.C., and Loretta Louise Frederick of Parkersburg (fiance Mike Gherke of Glenville); grandchildren include, Jonathan (Nikki) Miles of Ravenswood, W.Va., Philip Miles of Dunbar, W.Va., Alyssa (Bill) Whitely of South Carolina, Tahssa Doak of South Carolina, Michael (Donna) Frederick of Marietta, Ohio, and Aaron Frederick of Parkersburg; three great-grandchildren, Devin Whitley and Baylee and Dominic Doak; sisters, Mattilou Conner of Ohio and Betty Bailey of St. Marys, W.Va.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, William D. Eddy of St. Marys, W.Va.

Jennings served in the United States Navy, stationed at Norfolk, Va. from 1945 to 1948. Jennings held the rank of YN3. He also attended Automotive School in Chicago, Ill. Jennings lived in Parkersburg for 60 years as a mechanic for Hupp Whartons, Ashland Oil and the Vienna Quaker State, retiring in 1991. Jennings attended church at the 7th Street U. M. Church, with his wife faithfully, and served as Lay Leader for over 30 years. Jennings was known widely for his integrity and generosity. Jennings was also very active in the community, serving as a member of the Gideon's International, the Boy Scouts of 7th Street U. M. Church, Good Sam's Club, member of the West Virginia Extension Office, Master of Winding Grange # 525, President of the Model T Club and Pioneer Antique Auto Club, a member of the FAA, and vice-president, acting president of the Veteran's Park of Wood County.

Jennings was loved and surrounded by his family in his short illness, adored by his grandsons and will always be remembered as a resilient grandfather.

Service will be Friday, 11 a.m., at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg. Burial will follow at Sunset Memory Gardens. Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 5, 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
