Hazel Roberts Thatcher Poynter beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, died on July 22, 2017 in Pensacola, FL.

Born Hazel Latrelle Roberts on Nov. 27th, 1920 in Macon, GA, She was a writer, artist, and Navy wife. She graduated from Fairmont Junior College in 1940 with a degree in Creative Writing. She joined Capital Airlines as a Stewardess during WW II. She married Lt. Roland Churchill Thatcher Jr. on June 16, 1945. After the death of Capt. Roland (Bud) Thatcher in 1978, she married Capt. Drexel Eugene Poynter on June 15, 1983.

She is preceded in death by her two husbands, Capt. Thatcher (1978), and Capt. Poynter (2000), and son Robert Edgar Thatcher (1954).

She is survived by Virginia L. Thatcher (daughter), William R. Thatcher (son), Roland C. Thatcher III (son), and wife Mary K. Thatcher, grandson Roland C. Thatcher IV and his wife Lindsey Owen Thatcher, and great grandchildren, Grayson Owen Thatcher, and Charlotte Jane Thatcher.

She will be interred at Barrancas National Cemetery on Friday, July 28, 2017 in a private gathering. A public Memorial service will be on Saturday, July 29th at 3 pm at Azalea Trace in the Auditorium, followed by a reception in the Azalea Room.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the American Cancer Society, and the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund.

Oak Lawn Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
