James “Jim” Thomas Welch, Jr, 66, of Bluefield, VA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 14, 2018 at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, WV.
He was born on March 17, 1951 in Wheeling, WV, son of Betty Riggle Welch and the late James Thomas Welch. Jim graduated from John Marshall High School and received his degree in Electrical Engineering from WVU. He worked for Peabody Coal Company and G.E Transportation Services before founding his own successful company, Field Service Solutions. Jim loved his church family at First Baptist Church in Princeton, WV where he served the Lord in many capacities, including deacon.
His favorite hobby was flying his Beechcraft Bonanza. Also, Jim enjoyed spending his time with friends, traveling, and shag dancing. He and his wife worked to form the Bluefield Area Shag Society in 2004.
Along with his mother, Jim is survived by his wife Kristina (Staggs), her children Jessica (Chris) Hazzard and Andrew (Amanda, fiance) Spradling, son Nathan Welch, sisters Debbie (Glenn) Dunn, Darla (Pete) Herrick, Donna (Tom) McLaughlin, and special aunt Bonnie (Gerald) Berghoff, as well as loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2018 from 11am until the time of service at 2pm at Kepner Funeral Home 166 Kruger Street, Wheeling, WV (304-242-2311) with Dr. David Dockery and Lisa Fox officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Dallas United Methodist Church, 7383 Dallas Pike Road, Dallas, WV 26036.
In addition, A memorial visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church in Princeton, WV from 4:30pm until the time of service at 6pm on Sunday, March 18, 2018 with Dr. David Dockery officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church Princeton Building Fund, 1116 Mercer Street, Princeton, WV 24740.
