Barbara Jo Swan Smith, 74, of Middlebourne departed this life Sunday, November 4, 2012 at her home. She was born September 1, 1938 in Middlebourne a daughter of the late Charles A. "Sam" Swan and Juanita Swan Kevesdy.

Barb was a retired employee of the Tyler County Board of Education with 32 years of service where she served as secretary in the county office. She was an avid fisherwoman. She and her husband Donnie spent several seasons fishing for trout in the mountains of WV. Most recently they had a camper permanently set up at Alpine Shores, Bowden, WV. She was a member of the Middlebourne Methodist Church.

Besides spending time with her family, Barb also had a love of art. She was a talented amateur artist, blessing members of her family with many paintings, most of which were scenes from Tyler County and other areas she visited; Myrtle Beach, SC and the mountains of WV.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, David Lee Smith in 1981.

Barb is survived by her husband and high school sweetheart Donald Paul Smith. They were married October 19, 1956 and recently celebrated their 56th anniversary. Also surviving are a son Donald Paul Smith II (Susie), three grandchildren, Courtney and Jacob Smith of Slippery Rock, PA and Ben Carrier of Sligo, PA. She is also survived by her brother, Charles R. Swan (Faye), two sisters, Bernice Ann Thomas and Roberta L. Walton (Chuck) of Middlebourne and several nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends will be received at Furbee Funeral Home, Middlebourne, Tuesday 3 - 8 pm where services will be held Wednesday 11:00 am with Reverend Donald Thomas officiating. Interment in Beechwood Cemetery, Alma. A meal will be served immidately following the interment at the Friendship Center, East Street, Middlebourne.
