From 1775-1778 Samuel lived in Port Tobacco, East Hundred, Charles Co., MD with four children, according to the Census of St. James Parish.60 He served in the Revolutionary War as a private in Capt. Apparently Samuel never lived in PA; the family homestead lay near the present Lake Lynn, Fayette Co., PA, but south of the Mason-Dixon line in Monongalia Co., WV.60

DAR members have traced to Samuel through sons Henry Lewis Darnell and John Darnell (National #657042 [through son James T.], #757959 [through son Samuel], #881334 [through son Henry], and #881333 [through son Henry]).

Samuel Darnall, b. ca 1741 in Maryland, married in 1765. Source: Yates Publishing. U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2004.

Elsewhere it is said that Samuel and Chloe married in 1766 in Greene Twp., Greene Co., PA; no citation.

Elsewhere, stated that Samuel married around 1766 in Greene Co., PA, Hannah Tibbs (1749-1843); no citation, and conflicts with marriage to Chloe. That researcher may be conflating Samuel’s marriage to Chloe about 1766 with Samuel, son of Samuel, who married Hannah Tibbs (b. ca 1793).
