Obituary, Morning Herald (Uniontown, PA), March 6, 1956:
“John (Doddy) Acklin
Age 88 years a former resident of New Salem and Carmichaels, died Monday morning, March 5, 1956 at 5 o’clock in the Weber Nursing Home, Pittsburgh. He was predeceased by his wife Mary Elizabeth Allamon Acklin in 1950, and a brother Duncan Acklin, July 1954. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Mary McCoy, Daybrook, W. Va.; Harry Acklin, Pittsburgh; Mrs. Joseph (Margaret) Frank, Pittsburgh; stepchildren: William Gaskill, Waynesburg; Mrs. Mae White and Mrs. Emma Cook, both of Carmichaels. Also fourteen grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Friends will be received in the C. B. Dearth Sons Funeral Home, New Salem, after 12 noon today until 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, the hour of the service with Rev. W. T. Weaver of the New Salem Christian Church officiating. Burial will follow in Salem View cemetery.”
