“Pearl S. Pew, 85, of Middlebourne, died July 17, 1997 at her residence. She was born in Middlebourne, a daughter of the late Charles M. and Myrtle Grimm Swan. She was an honorary life member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 91, where she was president of the Womens Auxiliary. She was instrumental in organizing the “8 & 40” Service Organization, the service branch of the American Legion. She was a member of the Middlebourne United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, John W. “Bill” Pew; one sister, Maude Benson of Apalachin, NY and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four brothers, William Percy Swan, Sam Swan, Earl Swan and Robert Swan; four sisters, Nell Orr, Mary Young, Beatrice Thomas and Hattie Spencer; and two infant siblings.
Services were held 2 pm Sunday at the Furbee Funeral Home, Middlebourne, the Rev. Daniel Deem officiating. Burial in the Middlebourne Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Middlebourne United Methodist Church Educaiton Building, East Street, Middlebourne, WV 26149 or the Journey Hospice, 314 S. Wells Street, Sistersville, WV 26175.”57
