From her obituary:
“Mrs. Myrtle Swan, 78, died at the home of her son, Earl ‘Pat’ Swan in Parkersburg early Monday morning following a brief illness, the result of a heart attack suffered a week earlier. She was the widow of Charles M. ‘Tip’ Swan, well known Tyler county farmer and teamster, who preceded her in death three years ago. Until Mr. Swan’s death they resided on a farm at Wellsview and for the past two years Mrs. Swan had made her home with her son in Parkersburg where he has been located as contact officer with the Veterans Administration.
Mrs. Swan was born at Bearsville, this County, November 23, 1869, a daughter of Jesse and Phoebe Hamilton Grimm and had lived her entire life here. She was a member of the EUB Church.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. Hattie Spencer, Mrs. Pearl Glendening, Charles A. and Robert L. Swan all of this city, Mrs. Mary Young and Earl Swan of Parkersburg, Mrs. Nell Orr of Waverly, Mrs. Beatrice Thomas of Wheeling, Mrs. Maude Benson of Wilkes-Barre, PA, a brother, Alfred L. Grimm of this city, two sisters, Mrs. Jane Myers and Mrs. Celia McDougle of Alma, 26 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
The body was brought from Parkersburg to the Sellers Funeral Home here and lay in state until 2:30 o’clock Wednesday afternoon when services were held with Rev. Achsah Miller, EUB pastor, officiating. Burial was in the Middlebourne Greenwood Cemetery.”57
