From his obituary:
“Eddie Furman Staggers, 72, of R.D. 1, West Alexander, died at 2:55 p.m. Friday, May 22, 1964, at his home after a lingering illness.
Born May 6, 1892 at Jackson Township, the son of the late Henry and Mary Thomas Staggers, he lived most of his life in Washington and Greene counties.
Mr. Staggers was a retired carpenter having been employed for 18 years by the Finley Clay Products Company in Washington.
He is survived by his widow, Dora Phillips Staggers, whom he married June 24, 1942; one daughter, Mary, at home; one sister, Mrs. V. E. (Della) Jones of R.D. 1, Holbrook, and one half-brother, Blaine Thomas of Chicago, Ill. Two brothers, Earl and John are deceased. Mr. Staggers had attended the West Alexander Methodist Church.”

“Friends of Eddie Furman Staggers of RD 1, West Alexander, who died Friday, May 22, 1964, are being received from 7 P.M. Saturday “today” until 11 A.M. Monday at the Robert L. Lantz Funeral Home, Rogersville. The body will be in state from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. Monday, the hour of service, at the Phillips Methodist Church. Rev. John H. Debolt will be in charge of the services. Burial at Phillips Cemetery.”
