“We're sorry to inform you of our sad news, but we lost our husband/dad/friend this morning, 3/23/04, at about 6:45 a.m. As many of you know, he was diagnosed with leukemia about 6 weeks ago. After being hospitalized for a month, and in a rehab center for a week, he was happy to return home this past Saturday under hospice care. We spoiled him by honoring his many culinary requests and he received constant attention all weekend long. He seemed to take a turn for the worse Sunday night.
Obituary, San Antonio express-News (online edition), Mar. 25, 2004:
“James Bryar Grim, age 79, passed away March 23, 2004 in San Antonio TX. Originally from Cannonsburg, PA, James served in the Navy during WWII, attended the Julliard School of Music in New York and then graduated from the Pittsburgh Music Institute. He sang with the Pittsburgh Opera Chorus and the Amato Opera Co. in New York City. James moved to San Antonio in 1953 and continued to sing at churches and with the Chordsmen Chorus and for the San Antonio Little Theater. he sang with the Free-Loaders Quartet for 33 years which took him to Japan on a USO Tour. He and seveeral friends recently recorded “Reminiscing with Jim Grim”, a CD of some of his favorite songs. James is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Zaleski Grim; two daughters, Cassandra Grim of San Antonio and Dynthia Gdalman and her husband Chip and their children Hannah and Emma of Homewood, IL; brother, William Peck of Baltimore, MD also survives. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, March 26, 2004 at 2:00 P.M. at Alamo Heights United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, 825 E. Basse Rd., San Antonio, TX 78209. Meadowlawn Funeral Home.”
