“Bruce Arnold Hanlin passed away at 93 on December 14, 2010 in Oklahoma City, OK. Born in Pinch, WV on January 25, 1917, Bruce was the second child of Plenny A. Hanlin & Nellie Gaye Dye Hanlin. Bruce graduated from Tanner High School in 1935 and was the only surviving member of his class after 75 years. After graduation, he began his long employment in the oil and gas industry in WV for South Penn Oil Company, walking pipelines. On October 14, 1940, Bruce married his wife of 57 years, Virginia Newhouse. She passed away on December 13, 1997. In 1946 they moved to Michigan, where he began his time with Sohio Petroleum Company. He and the family were transferred to Lake Charles, LA in 1950. In 1951 Sohio moved them to Edmond, OK's WEHLU field. He eventually became a Production Foreman after working many years as plant operator. Elmore City, OK was the last stop from 1965 to his retirement from Sohio in 1982. In 1985 they returned home to Edmond, OK, where two of their daughters and their grandchildren were located. Bruce, Virginia and family were involved in the United Methodist Church wherever they lived. Bruce was also a 32nd degree Mason and a Member of the Eastern Star. He was preceded in death by brothers: Paul, Carl & Dale Hanlin; also sister, Donna Whiting. He is survived by sisters: Phyllis Butler and Fern Coberly of WV, and Lois Phillips of Idaho; daughters: Linda West and husband John of Cashion, OK; Marion Hunt and husband Caroll of Edmond, OK; Jane Hier and husband Roy of Oklahoma City, OK; grandchildren: John West, Jr & Lori, Bruce West & Ann, Chris Poindexter & Barbara, Ginny Poindexter, Randy Poindexter & Sabrina; great-grandchildren: Charlie Sharp Greer & Tyler, Justin West & Amanda, Kyle Poindexter DeCocq, Jordan Poindexter, Reanna Poindexter & Nathaniel Poindexter; great-great-grandchild, Kaiden Greer; step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren are Vicki Hunt Ihrig & Kevin, sons, Brandon & Micah, & Gina Hunt & daughter, Brooke Morris. The family would like to thank The Wellington and Universal Home Health, as well as Bellevue Health and Rehab. A service will be held 2:00 PM, Friday, December 17, 2010, at Matthews Funeral Home, 601 S. Kelly, Edmond, OK. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.”
