Marion L. Poindexter Hunt passed away at 65 on May 31, 2011 in Oklahoma City, OK. Born in Mt. Pleasant, MI on March 30, 1946. Beloved mother, daughter, sister, wife, and friend, she was the middle daughter of Bruce A. Hanlin & Virginia N. Hanlin.
Marion graduated from Deer Creek High School in 1964, and was Valedictorian, band queen, baton twirler, cheerleader, and later took the CB nick name, "dizzy fingers", for being the fastest typist. After graduation, she married her husband of 26 yrs, Dale Poindexter, and together they had 3 children, and numerous "adoptees". She studied English, Creative Writing (poetry, short stories, novels) at UCO, Edmond, OK.
Marion was a strong DC alumni advocate and supporter for her children and the community, and helped start the Youth Suicide Prevention. She also supported the Womens Political Caucus, and was a volunteer for many years at Oklahoma Girls State, sponsored by the American Legion Auxiliary. Marion's career included working at the ABC Board, and OK Bureau of Narcotics before she carried on the family's career passion of oil and gas. She was an extraordinary Senior Lease Analyst for several energy companies, before becoming disabled from Chesapeake Energy in 1998.
Marion exhibited an incredible level of faith and love that was contagious to everyone. She adored Angels and eventually became known as "Wingshunt". She loved singing in the choir, and was faithful to her church, where she met her current husband of almost 14 yrs, Caroll Hunt. Marion soon became known as "Lou Lou", as she embraced being the new addition to the family.
Marion is preceded in death by her parents, and her premature first born son, which she donated to science. She is survived by her sons, Christopher Poindexter and wife Barbara, Lone Wolf, OK, Randy Poindexter and wife Sabrina, Kingfisher, OK; and daughter, Virginia "Ginny" Poindexter of Yukon, OK; sisters, Linda West of Tuttle, OK, and Jane Hier and husband Roy of Oklahoma City; step- daughters, Vicki Ihrig & husband, Kevin, Tulsa, OK, and Gina Hunt, Edmond, OK; grandchildren, Charlie Sharp Greer & Tyler, Kyle Poindexter DeCocq, Brandon and Micah Ihrig, Jordan Poindexter, Brooke Morris , Reanna & Nate Poindexter; great grandchild, Kaiden Greer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank Mercy Hospital, Universal Home Health, and Church of the Servant. A service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, June 3, 2011 at Church of the Servant 14343 N. Macarthur Blvd., OKC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Services are under direction of Matthews Funeral Home, Edmond, OK.
