Obituary
Jack R. Horner, 87 of Belpre, Ohio died at his residence surrounded by his family on Saturday, December 30, 2017. He was born in Parkersburg, WV on August 8, 1930 and was the son of the late Lee Monroe and Gertrude L. (Webb) Horner. Jack was retired from Wallcolmonoy Corp where he was an Independant Representative. He had also worked for several years for the Eutectic Corp. He was in the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean Conflict. During his military service he was a meterologist. He played baseball for Parkersburg and for one year at Marietta College until his father died and he returned home to help with his family. He loved to hunt, loved watching his kids and grandchildren play ball and travel with his wife across the United States. He coached Little League ball for several years. He was a professional bowler for over 30 years on the National Bowling Tour. He was a member of the Hall of Fame in Parkersburg as well as the state of West Virginia. He has many awards for bowling several perfect 300 games.. He was called Iron Man because of how many consecutive games he bowled. For several years he taught youth bowling. For several years he ran the Pro Shop at the Skyline Bowling Alley in Gallipolis, Ohio. He also was a pilot and had a love for his dogs.
Surviviors include his wife of 60 years whom he married on December 31, 1957, Mary Lou Cochran Horner. He is also survived by his children, son Stephen Neale Horner of Vincent, Ohio, son, John David (Nancy) Horner of Belpre, and a daughter, Lisa Anne (Allan) Aiken of Belpre, his grandchildren, Amber Horner Moore, Taja Horner, Tyler Horner, Lakin Horner Thomas, Makayla Aiken and Zane Aiken, and two great grandchildren, Bryce and Annabelle Moore. Also surviving are a brother, Benny Ray (Lynn) Horner of Orrville, Ohio and sister Rose Marie Snodgrass of Parkersburg and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Frankie Lee Horner, brother, James M. Horner, and a sister, Betty L. Foster.
Services will be on Saturday at 1:00 PM at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre with Chaplin Ron Calvert and Pastor Mike Horner officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreeen North Cemetery. Friends may call at the Leavitt Funeral Home, Belpre on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM and one hour prior to services on Saturday. Military services will be conducted by the Marietta American Legion and the Marietta VFW.
The family would like to thank the nurses from the Marietta Hospice, especially Karen and Shawnda and the other nurses that assisted, Dr. Kelli Cawley, and the VA plus interim nurses and aids.
