Larry Lawrence Horner, 78, of Pennsboro, departed this life Nov. 22, 2013, at his home.

He was born March 6, 1935, in Pennsboro, W.Va., a son of the late Frank and Lucille McCullough Horner.

Larry was a man of varied abilities. He ran heavy equipment for Paul Cromwell, he was a driller and tool pusher, he was owner of Big Knot Oil Company, owner of Horner Well Service, he worked for General Motors, and retired from American Cyanamid with 38 years of service. Larry was a retired member of Pennsboro Volunteer Fire Department, having served 50 years. He helped build Tracy Lake and the 4-H Grounds and had been a flagger at Pennsboro Speedway. He loved the mountains of West Virginia. His hobbies included gas engines at the Sistersville Oil and Gas and Elkins Forest festivals. He was a member of Pennsboro Church of Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Cheryl Horner; and a granddaughter, Makayla Danielle Horner.

Larry is survived by his wife, Betty Weekley Horner; his son, Larry Lawrence Horner Jr.; his daughter, Sondra Lou (Kenny) Griffith; a brother, Frank Horner Jr.; and a sister, Fern Sellers, all of Pennsboro; two grandsons, Brian Nelson (Heidi) Griffith, Lewisburg, W.Va., and Dana Aaron Griffith, Washington, D.C.; great-grandchildren, James and J.J. Griffith and Allen, Cassi and Kenny McGeehan; nephews, Loren (Lenise) Sellers, Francis "Bud" (Angie) Sellers, Frank "Bubby" (Brenda) Horner III and R.D. (Teresa) Cox; and nieces, Mindy (John) Davis and Tina Jenkins.

Larry did not want a lengthy visitation therefore a "walk through" to pay your respects will be held Tuesday from 1-3 p.m. at the Pennsboro Fire Hall. Interment with a graveside service will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Finch, W.Va.
