Makayla Danielle Horner, 14, of Pennsboro, WV, departed this life on Saturday, June, 22, 2013, in Ellenboro, WV, as a result of an automobile accident.

Makayla was born May 21, 1999, in Parkersburg, WV a daughter of Larry Horner, Jr. and the late Cheryl (Adams) Horner of Pennsboro, WV. Makayla was a recent graduate of Ritchie County Middle School with the class of 2013. She attended the Pennsboro United Methodist Church and sang in the children's choir and attended the prep classes at the church, with JoAnne Lawrence serving as her mentor. Makayla loved to travel. She recently traveled to Martinsville, VA to a NASCAR race to root for her favorite driver, Tony Stewart. She also traveled to Washington DC, with her 8th grade class, and to Wheeling to sing the Star Spangled Banner at a Wheeling Nailer hockey game, with her middle school choir.

Makayla served as a former member of the RCMS Trailblazer girls basketball, volleyball, and softball teams and recently the Ritchie County High School Lady Rebel volleyball team. Makayla greatly enjoyed hunting, fishing, roller skating, auctions, riding 4-wheelers, shopping, camping, playing cornhole, and dirt track racing. She also loved going on vacations to Myrtle Beach, going to the movies, spending time at the family hunting camp, spending time with her aunt & uncle, Ron & Charlotte Cunningham in OH, and pulling her gas engine in various parades. Makayla also volunteered her time at the Pennsboro Fire Department and was a Jr. Red Cross Volunteer.

In addition to her father, she is survived by her paternal grandparents, Larry & Betty Horner, Sr, Pennsboro, WV; maternal grandparents, Charley & Anna Jane Swadley, Harrisville; aunt, Cherry Bishop (Mike), Harrisville; uncle, Charles (Kylia) Swadley, Pennsboro, WV; aunt, Sondra (Kenny) Griffith, Pennsboro, WV; special cousins, Hunter, Allyson, Tara, Levi, Dana, Brian, James, J.J., Cassie, Allen, & Kenny, along with her dog, Goldie and her cat, Buffy.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Cheryl (Adams) Horner, who passed away as a result of the same automobile accident.

Funeral services will be 11am, Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Ritchie County High School Auditorium, with Rev. Jim Pyles officiating. Burial will follow in the Harrisville IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8pm, on Wednesday at Ritchie County High School. McCullough-Raiguel Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
