Viola M. (Butler) McDonald went to be with our Lord Friday, February 8, 2013 after a courageous battle with cancer.
During her illness, not once did she complain; her only concern was for her family. Viola was born December 14, 1933 in Pleasants County, West Virginia, and has lived in Akron, Ohio since 1967.
She was preceded in death by her parents, William S. Butler and Rosa E. Higgins Butler Davis; her stepfather, Lawrence Davis; brother, Dale Butler; and sisters, Patsy Potts and Imagene Felton. She is survived by her four beloved daughters, Shawanna (David) Swartz, Fegena (Robert) Husek, Tamara (Lawrence) Meers and Rosa McDonald; three grandchildren, Kayla Crissman, Kody Crissman, and Tabitha Meers; and one great-granddaughter, Emma Crissman, all of Akron, Ohio; she is also survived by her brother, Jim Higgins of Newport, Ohio; sister, Ethel (Thomas) Weekley of St. Marys, West Virginia; sister-in-law, Marjorie Butler of New Matamoras, Ohio; brother-in-law, Eugene Felton of Marietta, Ohio; two aunts, Winnie Shingleton of St. Marys, West Virginia and Lulu Belle Lewis of Parkersburg, West Virginia; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Viola attended Bloomfield High School in Rinards Mill, Ohio. She worked as a housekeeper and nanny for Dr. and Mrs. George West in St. Marys, West Virginia for several years prior to getting married. She was a member of the Rinards Mill Methodist Church.
Viola was a loving and devoted wife for over 46 years to her ex-husband, Argel McDonald, and a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her entire life revolved around her children, grandchildren, her great-granddaughter, and her entire family. She was a homemaker and an excellent cook, and she loved watching the birds at her bird feeders. She especially loved working in her flower and vegetable gardens, embroidering, and making beautiful quilts. Family gatherings and the holidays were her favorite times of the year, when she was surrounded by her family. One of her greatest pleasures was watching her family enjoy her home-cooked meals.
Because of her love for her children, she leaves this poem to them:
Your Mother is Always With You...
She's the whisper of the leaves as you walk down the street.
She's the smell of bleach in your freshly laundered socks.
She's the cool hand on your brow when you're not well.
Your mother lives inside your laughter.
She's crystallized in every tear drop.
She's the place you came from; your first home...
She's the map you follow with every step that you take.
She's your first love and your first heart break...
And nothing on earth can separate you.
Not time, not space...not even death...
Will ever separate you from your mother...
You carry her inside of you...
