Obituary:
“Floyd William Chess, 68, of 695 North Richhill Street, Waynesburg, died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday, August 10, 1969, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, where he had been taken after suffering a sudden illness. He had not been in the best of health for some time.
He was born June 24, 1901, at Bristoria, the son of Samuel C. and Mary Etta Hewitt Chess. His wife, Ellen Elliot Chess, whom he married November 2, 1927, survives.
Mr. Chess was employed for over 47 years with the Southwestern Pennsylvania Pipeline Company and the National Transit Company as an oil gauger, and had been retired the last few years.
He was an active member of the First Baptist church of Waynesburg, where he was a past deacon and a member of the Men’s Fellowship Sunday School Class.
Surviving, besides his wife, are three brothers; Thomas A. Chess, of Bristoria RD 1; Arthur L. Chess, of Wind Ridge RD 1; and Joseph Chess, of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday with burial in Greene County Memorial Park.”
