Obituary:
“Arthur L. Chess, 67, of Wind Ridge, RD 1, died about 10:20 a.m. Monday, April 15, 1974. Death was sudden from an apparent heart attack.
He was born May 14, 1906 in Richhill Township, a son of the late Samuel C. and Mary Ellen Hewitt Chess.
On October 3, 1925 he was married to Violet Scherich Chess who survives at Wind Ridge, RD 1.
Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Mrs. Oliver “Helen L.” Levander of McKeesport, Mrs. Thomas “Aldene” Carpenter of Pittsburgh and Mrs. Richard “Mary” Buckabaugh of Hershey. Ten grandchildren and three great grandsons also survive.
Two brothers, Thomas A. Chess of Graysville, RD 1 and Joseph I. of Pittsburgh survive.
He was a well known farmer in the Richhill Township area, where he had spent his entire life, and for some time had worked as a caretaker for the state highway department. He was a member of the Wind Ridge Christian Church.
Friends of Arthur L. Chess of Wind Ridge, RD 1, who died Monday, April [15] 1974
are being received after 7 PM Tuesday in the Samuel P. Weaver Funeral Home,
High Street, Waynesburg, where funeral services will be held at 1 PM Tuesday
with Rev. Calvin M. Hupp officiating. Burial will follow in Wind Ridge
cemetery.”
