He opened a grocery store in Brownsville in 1882, but by 1910 he was a partner in a bakery. His listing in a 1904 city directory reads: “Acklin Chas P, Baker, Front St., Brownsville, Sara wife.”

Obituary, The Morning Herald, Uniontown, Mar. 29, 1923, p. 11:
“Charles P. Acklin, aged 74 years, of Brownsville, died at the Brownsville hospital Tuesday evening, March 27, 1923, at 11:30 o’clock from burns sustained when he fell on a hot stove recently at the home of his son-in-law W. C. Hormell, in that city, with whom he made his home. The deceased was widely known in the Brownsville community having for a number of years conducted a grocery business and later Acklin’s bakery. He retired from active business several years ago. He is survived by one son, William G. Acklin, and two grandchildren, Graham Hormell and Mrs. Sarah Wilson, all of Brownsville.
Funeral services will be held from the Hormell house Thursday afternoon at 3 o’clock with Rev. A. M. Bowman, pastor of the Brownsville First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Interment will be in Redstone cemetery.”
