Carolyn’s natural parents were John Hughes and Adalyn Elizabeth Meighen. She was adopted by Adalyn’s maternal aunt, Margaret Delilah Gordon, and her husband, Quincy Arthur Jones.439

Carolyn G. Staggers, 62, of Waynesburg, R. D. 4, died at 3 P.M. Wednesday, February 1, 1978, at the Greene County Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born March 17, 1915, in Richhill Township, near Wind ridge. She was a foster daughter of G. A. and Margaret Gordon Jones.

Mrs. Staggers had spent all of her life in the Waynesburg community and she was a member of the First Baptist church at Waynesburg.

She graduated from Waynesburg High School with the class of 1935.

She is survived by her mother, Adalyn Meighen Thomas of Washington; her husband, Herbert R. Staggers, whom she married February 11, 1939; four daughters, Mrs. Robert (Carolyn) Anderson of reston, Va.; Mrs. David (Peggy) Metzger, Sarah and Donna Staggers, all of Charlottesville, Va.; two sons, Richard of Big Spring, Texas, Ralph of Butler; two granddaughters, Susan and Melissa; one grandson, Scott; one sister, Lois Develine of Washington and one brother, Donald Meighen of Washington.1259
