Obituary, Daily Journal, Park Hills, St. Francois Co., MO., April 6, 2007:
“Melbourne J. Doughty passed away April 4, 2007 at St. Joe Manor in Bonne terre, MO at the age of 92. He was born July 26, 1914 to Walter Wood Doughty and Minnie “Burch” Doughty who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Nell Ridenour and Glenda Miller and by three brothers, Alfred Doughty, Glenwood Doughty and Don Doughty.
Survivors include his wife, Irene “Martin” Doughty, two sons, Jim Doughty of Chireno, Texas and Patrick Doughty of Nacogdoches, Texas, also four grandchildren: Chrisy Doughty, Beverly Doughty, Joshua Doughty and Brandi Doughty.
Melbourne proudly and honorably served his country from February 12, 1941 to May 22, 1945. He was a S/Sgt with the 329th Infantry Regiment and took part in the Normandy Campaign, the Northern France Campaign and the German Campaign. Service decorations received: Good Conduct Ribbon, Oak Leaf Cluster, EAME Ribbon, three Bronze Battle Stars, Combat Infantry Badge and the Purple Heart.
He was a lifetime member of the DAV and VFW. Melbourne retired from Missouri Natural Gas Company in 1979, however most of his working life was as a farmer.
Visitation will be at 5 p.m. on Friday at Horton-Wampler Funeral Home in Park Hills. Services will be at 2 p.m. on Saturday at Horton-Wampler Chapel with Rev. Jim Martin and Rev. Bill Miller officiating. Interment following at Knights of Pythias Cemetery south of Farmington.”9
