“Mrs. Mattie Mabelle Staggers, 72, for many years a resident of the Graysville community, died Saturday after, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Leroy McDonough, in Prosperity, where she was making her home.
Mrs. Staggers was born July 19, 1968. She was a daughter of L. Hamilton and Malissa Jane Coutz. She was married in 1890 to William Thomas Staggers who died in 1917. They were parents of nine children, seven of whom survive: ? Staggers, Dewey Staggers, Oakie Staggers and Milo Staggers, all of Graysville; Stacy Staggers, Waynesburg and Glenn Staggers, of Burnsville.
Six brothers and three sisters survive, as follows: John Coutz, of Bellaire, O; William Theodore Coutz, of Bridgeport, O; Charles Coutz, in Oregon; Stidger Coutz of Pittsburgh; Samuel and Albert Coutz, of Wheeling; Mrs. Bertha Hoffman, of Washington; Mrs. Addie Hall, Clayton, O.; and Mrs. Bessie Halphay, of Mingo Junction, O.
There are 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Staggers was a member of the Unity Presbyterian Church, at Graysville, where she spent most of her life.
Friends will be received at the home of her son, A. T. Staggers, at Graysville, where funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 24, at 2 P.M. in charge of the Rev. R. A. Bennett, of Wheeling, W. Va.; the Rev. A. M. Riggs, of Van Buren, and the Rev. J. Nelson Jackaway, of Graysville. Burial will be in Rosemont Cemetery, Rogersville.”
