“Artie L. Staggers Mankey
Owned/operated Old Station Inn restaurant
Artie L. Staggers Mankey, 76, of Waynesburg, died at 12:35 p.m. Sunday, August 26, 2007, in her home following a brief illness.
She was born Monday, March 9, 1931, in Center Township, a daughter of Arthur Staggers and Mildred Whipkey Staggers.
Mrs. Mankey spent most of her life in Greene County.
She was a member of Winnet Methodist Church in Smithton.
Mrs. Mankey was a member of Women's Auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793, James Farrell American Legion Post 330 and Women of the Moose 888, all of Waynesburg.
Along with her husband, she owned and operated Old Station Inn restaurant.
She was a homemaker.
On March 4, 1950, she married Arthur Eugene (Gene) Mankey, who died August 14, 2007.
Surviving are three daughters, Erma Jean Conner and husband Randy L., Verona L. Allman and husband Mike and Tina Mankey, all of Waynesburg; a son, Arthur L. Mankey and wife Jewell of Middletown; 11 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Fern Haught of Riverside, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three sisters, Gaye Smith, Kate Murdock and Marie Benson, and two brothers, Allan Staggers and Ike Staggers. Also deceased is Agnes "Bo-Bo" Riggs, who raised her.
The family will greet friends from 6 to 7 p.m., the hour of memorial services, Wednesday, August 29, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/director, 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, with the Rev. Kathy Higgins officiating.
Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
The family suggests memorials to Hospice of the Washington Hospital/ Washington Hospital Foundation, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301-9986, or American Cancer Society, Pennsylvania Division Inc. S/W Region, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205-4620.”
