Obituary, Observer-Reporter (Washington, PA), August 18, 2007:
“Arthur E. Mankey
Waynesburg resident was U.S. Air Force veteran
Arthur E. (Gene) Mankey, 75, of Waynesburg, died at 5:05 a.m. Tuesday, August 14, 2007, in his home following a lengthy illness.
He was born Wednesday, December 9, 1931, in Morris Township, a son of John C. Mankey and Gladys V. Ealy Mankey.
He was a Greene County resident most of his life.
Mr. Mankey was a member of Union Valley Methodist Church, Time.
Mr. Mankey was a life member of Waynesburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793, James Farrell American Legion Post 330, Disabled American Veterans 123 and Waynesburg Moose Lodge 461.
Mr. Mankey served as sergeant 1st class in the U.S. Air Force from 1948-1952 during the Korean conflict, being stationed in Okinawa, Japan.
Mr. Mankey was the former owner of Old Station Inn and later in life retired as a foreman from Marcolino Construction Co. in 1992.
His wife, Artie L. Staggers Mankey, whom he married March 4, 1950, survives.
Also surviving are three daughters and their spouses, Erma Jean and Randy L. Conner, Verona L. and Mike Allman and Tina Mankey, all of Waynesburg; a son and wife, Arthur L. and Jewell Mankey of Middletown; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two brothers and a spouse, Wilbert J. Mankey of Waynesburg and Thomas Jacob and Carol Mankey of Rotonda, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public visitation. A memorial service will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday, August 18, in Milliken and Throckmorton Funeral Home Inc., 197 North Maiden Street, Waynesburg, Daryl L. Throckmorton, owner/direcor, with the Rev. Kathy Higgins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to American Cancer Society, Pennsylvania Division Inc., Southwest Region, 320 Bilmar Drive, Pittsburgh, PA 15205-4620; and/or Hospice Care of The Washington Hospital, The Washington Hospital Foundation, 155 Wilson Avenue, Washington, PA 15301-9986.
