“Robert L. Staggers, 69, of Lakeland, Fla, a former resident of Greene County, died Friday, November 7, 1980, in Lakeland General Hospital following an illness of 13 days.
He was born April 5, 1911, in Jackson Township, a son of Harry I. and Blanche Smith Staggers. He was a graduate of Richhill Township High School, Wind Ridge, and of Indiana State College. Mr. Staggers taught school in Greene County for several years and later operated a plumbing and heating contracting business in Waynesburg.
He had resided in Florida since 1957 where he worked as a steam fitter until his retirement. He was a Protestant by faith and was a member of the Masons and several other fraternal and civic organizations in Florida.
His first wife, Helen Haviland Staggers, died several years ago. Surviving are his second wife, Jerry Staggers, a son Joe Staggers of Bausman, Pa., a granddaughter, a sister, Mrs. Helen Hewitt of Maidsville, W. Va.; and a brother John Staggers of Downingtown. A sister, Margaret, is deceased.”179
