James was known as Eastman or Uncle East to younger relatives.

“James Abraham (East) Staggers, 73, of Aurora, W.Va., died at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, August 22, 1964, at Kingwood, W. Va.
He was born June 13, 1886, at Bristoria to the late James E. and Amanda McVey Staggers. He was a retired oil and gas worker in the West Virginia and Western Pennyslvania fields and was affiliated with the Long Run Church of God.
He is survived by his widow, Kathryn Smith Staggers, one sister, Mrs. Osborne (Della) Jones of Holbrook and a brother, Arthur of Holbrook.
His first wife, Mary Hughes Staggers, died in 1934. Also deceased are the follwoing brothers and sisters; Harry, Mrs. John Clyde Kerr, Sudie, Mrs. Jack Strosnider, Randolph Lawrence and Ned L.”

1281 “Friends of James abraham “East” Staggers of Aurora, W. Va., who died Saturday, Aug. 22, 1964, are being received after 3 P.M. Monday at the family residence. Services will be conducted at 1 P.M. Tuesday at the Aurora Methodist Church by Rev. Frank Snyder. An open casket service will be held at 4:30 P.M. at Rosemont Cemetery.”
