170Obituary:
“Mrs. Amanda McVay Staggers, aged 73 years and three days, wife of J. E. Staggers, died at 8:55 Thursday night, February 12, 1931, at her home near Bristoria. Funeral services were held at the Staggers home Saturday afternoon at 2:30 with Rev. A. M. Riggs, of Wind Ridge, officiating. Interment was in the Staggers cemetery. Mrs. Staggers was a daughter of the late John and Christina Kerns McVay, and was born and reared in Jackson township, where she spent her entire life. Besides her husband she leaves the following sons and daughters: J. A. Staggers, of Cameron, W. Va.; Harry I. Staggers, of Bristoria; C. R. Staggers, of Graysville; A. D. Staggers, Mrs. Clythia Gerr, Mrs. Francis Strosnider, Mrs. Stella G. Jones and Sadie E. Staggers of Holbrook. One son, Lawrence E. Staggers, was killed in France while serving with the American Expeditionary forces in the World War, and another son, Ned L. Staggers, died in 1929. Three sisters and one brother also survive as follows: Mrs. Mary Roach, Mrs. Caroline Morehead, Mrs. George Haines, and Charles M. McVay, of Washington. Mrs. Staggers was a member of the Church of God.”
