Kathryn Grim Pitzer, 79, of Kade Nursing Home, Washington, formerly of Beallsville, died Thursday at the nursing home after a long illness.

Mrs. Pitzer was a graduate of California Normal School, now California University of Pennsylvania. She taught at Buckingham School, Deemston; New Hill School, Centerville; and at Marianna and Beallsville schools. She retired in 1970.

She was a member of Beallsville United Presbyterian Church; Deenston Grange No. 1372; a member and past noble grand for the Lady Schenley Rebekah No. 121, Beallsville; district deputy of the Rebekahs for southwestern Washington County; a member pf Wayne Council 124 Daughter of America, Waynesburg; member of James Farrell American Legion Post 330 Auxiliary, Waynesburg; member and past protector of the Dames of Malta Valley Dawn Sisterhood no. 24, Charleroi; and past president of Hancock-Horne-McCune American Legion Auxiliary.

Mrs. Pitzer was a life member of the Washington County, Pennsylvania and national Retired Teachers Associations, and a life member of the National Education Association and California Alumni Association and California Alumni Association.

She is survived by two brothers, Howard Deems of Bridgeville and Merle Deems of Carnegie; a foster sister, Violet Shriner of Vestaburg; three stepsons, Thomas M. "Junior" Pitzer of Lake Wales, Fla., Leonard M. Pitzer of Eighty Four and Ronald W. Pitzer of Bridgewater, Beaver County, three stepdaughters, Elda Guthrie and Sarah Harris of East Rochester, Beaver County , and Betty Konicki of Marianna; and several step-grandchildren, step-great-grand-children and step-great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lawrence B. "Pete" Grim, and her second husband, Crawford Melville Pitzer.
