Notes from Richard Smith:
Myrtle lived in Wheeling on top of Wheeling hill near The Windmill. Margaret Ann Smith remembered going there and spending the night with her cousin, Helen Cox Whiteman.
Myrtle was married a second time to George Smith. He was thirty-four years of age and she was twenty-eight years old at the time of the marriage. The marriage did not last very long.
Myrtle is listed in the Pleasants County Court house as being born in Sistersville, WV. It lists the family living in Sistersville. Her marriage license also lists her birth in Tyler County, WV.
Obituary (from Richard Smith):
“Funeral services are to be held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the chapel of the Altmeyer Funeral Home for Mrs. Myrtle Rawson Fox, 42, resident of this city for the past fifteen years, whose death occurred early Thursday morning at her home, 328 Main Street. In failing health for the past two years, Mrs. Fox has been seriously ill for six months.
Rev. W. H. Fields, Christian minister, will be in charge. Burial will be made in Greenwood cemetery. Mrs. Fox was a native of Waverly, W.Va., where she was born on December 22, 1895, a daughter of Mrs. Hilda Rawson and the late Thomas Rawson. She attended the schools of Waverly where she spent her early years, later residing at Sistersville. She was a member of the Christian Church.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Henry Whiteman, of Short Creek; and a son, Clarence Cox of Warwood; her mother, Mrs. Hulda Rawson of Wheeling; three sisters, Mrs. George Jackson of Steubenville; Mrs. Essie Martin of Turtle Creek, Pa. and Mrs. Gertrude Smith of Wheeling; also four brothers, Gay Rawson of Turtle Creek, Pa. Thomas Rawson of Martins Ferry, Ohio, Everett Rawson of Turtle Creek, Pa. (Everett lived in Los Angeles) and Bill Rawson of Weirton; a granddaughter, Shirley Ann Whiteman, of Short Creek, and a grandson, Clarence R. Cox of Warwood.”
