Walter didn’t remember ever seeing his grandfather Grim (Barnett Perry Grim), and didn’t remember ever hearing his great-grandfather’s name. He and his wife lived in New Freeport, PA.
103Golden Anniversary Notice
“Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grim of New Freeport RD 1 will celebrate their golden wedding anniversary with an open house at their home Sunday, July 15th.
They were married July 14, 1923 at the First Methodist Church, Waynesburg by Rev. F. D. Esenivein.
Friends, neighbors and relatives are invited to call between 2 and 5 P.M.
Mrs. Grim of Pine Bank is the daughter of the late David M. and Alice Hogue Hoy. Mr. Grim of New Freeport is the son of the late John H., and Harriet Fanner [Fonner] Grim. Mr. and Mrs. Grim are the parents of six sons and two daughters. Wilford of Monongahela, Harold of Hamburg, New York, Kenneth of New Freeport RD 2, Karl of Hundred, W. Va., Wayne of New Freeport RD 2, Robert of Columbus, Ohio, Mrs. John (Wilma) Lennon of Davistown, Mrs. Edward (Gladys) Gaines of New Freeport.
Mr. Grim is retired from the Peoples Natural Gas Co. They have 24 grandchildren.”

“To Mark 60 Years
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Grim of New Freeport will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on July 14, 1983, but will observe the occasion on July 17 with a covered dish dinner for the families and relatives. Mrs. Grim is the daughter of the late David M. and Alice Hogue Hoy of Pine Bank and Mr. Grim is the son of the late John H. and Harriet Fonner Grim of New Freeport. They are the parents of six sons and two daughters. Wilfred of Monongahela; Harold of Hamburg, N.Y.; Kenneth of New Freeport; Karl of Hundred, W. Va.; Wayne of New Freeport; Robert of Columbus, Ohio; Mrs. John (Wilma) Lemmon of Daisytown and Mrs. Edward (Gladys) Gaines of New Freeport. There are 28 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. Mr. Grim is retired from the Peoples Natural Gas Company. A card shower is being held to observe the occasion.”

“J. Walter Grim
J. Walter Grim, 90, of New Freeport R.D.1, died at 5:50 p.m. Thursday, May 25, 1989, in his home, following a long illness.
He was born February 16, 1899, in Springhill Township, a son of John H. and Harriett Fonner Grim. He was a lifelong resident of the New Freeport area.
During his early life, he was a member of the New Freeport Baptist Church. He later attended the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church.
He was an organizing and charter member of the New Freeport Volunteer Fire Department, where he served as president and secretary. He was also a member of the former New Freeport Modern Woodsmen Lodge.
He was a self-employed farmer and for approximately 38 years worked as a bailing machine operator for People’s Natural gas Company. He retired in 1961. On July 14, 1923, he married Edith Hoy Grim, who survives.
Also surviving are six sons, Wilfred E. Grim of Monongahela, harold E. Grim of Hamburg, N.Y., Karl L. Grim of Hundred, W.Va., Kenneth H. Grim of New Freeport, Wayne W. Grim of New Freeport and C. Robert Grim of Columbus, Ohio; two sisters, Mrs. John (Wilma I.) Lemmon of Daisytown and Mrs. Edward (Gladys V.) Gaines of New Freeport; 24 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and nine step-great-grandchildren.
Two brothers, George and Charles Grim, and five sisters, Effie Yates, Elizabeth Chaney, Nettie Patterson, Lucy Rush, and Goldie Geho, are deceased. He was the last of his immediate family”
